Organic Farming
Pride & Integrity
Cal-Organic is focused on advancing innovation in farming by surpassing the standard for organic practices. The USDA seal on our purple tags is a promise that our fresh produce was farmed free of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, growth hormones, antibiotics, preservatives and GMOs.
Soil Health
Farmland must be free of prohibited substances such as synthetic pesticides for at least three years before certified organic seeds can be planted. Our farmers use composted manures, cover crops and crop rotation to enrich our soil naturally and prevent erosion.
Weeds & Pests
We turn to natural sources to protect our produce from unwanted weeds and pests. We build up populations of beneficial insects such as ladybugs, hoverflies and parasitic wasps in the field and use cover crops to divert their attention away from our precious organic plants.
Post-Harvest
While many of our crops are packed in the field, we take special care to ensure that our organic produce isn’t contaminated during or after harvest. We use nitrile gloves and organic-only equipment when handling our produce.
Random Inspection
A key part of being certified organic are routine, comprehensive inspections by a certifying agency—ours is CCOF. These inspections make sure every aspect of our growing operation is up to organic standards.
Our Commitment
We’re a pioneer farming company that is passionate about providing fresh organic produce. We’ve been committed to honoring sustainable practices by growing organically since 1984.
